No sugar Ahhhhh!!!!
I've gone cold turkey on the sugar and Diet Cokes today, and so far I haven't killed anyone. (It's early.) It's been a crazy work day. Seems like everything as far as extra writing goes is due this week. Wild. I had a good weekend, totally rested yesterday. The Emmys were okay, if a bit on the boring side. (Though I loved Bob Newhart.)

Now I have something special for you. The adorably, sexy Nalini Singh, whose "Slave to Sensation" is out next week. If you haven't seen the cover, well be prepared to drool. 1. Tell us about your book?

Slave to Sensation is set in the near future. The world is ruled by the Psy, a psychic race which conditions its young to feel nothing (through a program called Silence). The reason for the conditioning? Before Silence, the Psy had incredibly high rates of insanity and serial killing. Now they’re ice, cold and without heart.

But the Psy aren’t the only ones in this world. Humans exist and so do Changelings. Changelings are shapeshifters who can take on animal forms and who allow their animal natures to rule them. They’re the polar opposites of the Psy and adore sensation, hunger for touch.

The heroine, Sascha, is one of the Psy. The hero, Lucas, an alpha Changeling. They’re thrown together in the hunt for a serial killer and the heat generated between them is explosive. Lucas is determined to teach Sascha about pleasure, about desire, and he’s not a Changeling any woman could ever ignore. But if Sascha breaks Silence, the Psy Council will punish her by a brainwipe that’ll destroy both her memories and her personality.

2. How did you come up with the idea?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve always been fascinated by psychic powers like telepathy and telekinesis, so that probably fed into the genesis of this book. But all I know is that I sat down one day and boom, there it was. I wrote the first draft in a manic three weeks (while working full-time).

I don’t recommend this. Really. It’s crazy-making.

But boy did I love writing Slave to Sensation. The sexy men, the strong women, the psychic abilities, they all grabbed me from day 1. I didn’t want to leave that world, which is why I began writing a second book on the heels of the first. And then I discovered even more things that fascinated me. Now I’ve got ideas for several more books set in the same universe.

3. Were you blown away when you saw your cover for the
first time? That guy is hot, hot, hot!

I probably shouldn’t admit this in public but I spent several hours staring at it going oh-my-gawd. Again and again. Talk about heat wave! I absolutely adore what they did with the cover and I’m really hoping they’ll carry it on with the second book.

Oh and I’m currently trying to find out the identity of the cover model so I can stalk him pass on all the fan mail I’m getting about him. ;)

4. Tell us about your writing process, how do you
work?

I like to handwrite the first draft. What I’ll usually do is write my pages for the day in a notebook, then enter them all into the computer. I try to do it the same day to stop from having a whole book’s worth of typing to do all at once. Once that first draft is done, I begin the second almost immediately. That’s done on the computer because my first drafts tend to be quite rough. The third draft I print out and work on. After that I usually go over it at least twice more.

5. What are some of your favorite recent reads?

Jayne Castle’s Ghost Hunter. (She can’t write these books fast enough for me!)

Karina Bliss’s debut Mr Imperfect was also a very good read.

And Naomi Novik’s His Majesty’s Dragon was just stunning.

6. Tell us about your other books?

I also write short sexy contemporaries for Silhouette Desire. I really love writing strong alpha men, and I get to do that with the Desire books. And because of the shorter size, they tend to be very intense hero-heroine focused books. My most recent release was in March - Secrets In The Marriage Bed is about two people who are meant for each other, but met too early, before they were ready. The story is about them trying to find their way back to each other after their marriage almost falls apart. I think of this book as a fairy-tale made real ie. what if Sleeping Beauty wasn’t ready for her Prince? How would they find their happy ever after?

7. Is there anything you'd like your readers to know?
